Ingredients
- 1 medium green cabbage, sliced
- 3 large carrots, grated
- 2 chicken bouillon cubes
- 4 cups water
- 3 tablespoons butter
- 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 1 cup milk
- 2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
Instructions
1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
2. Dissolve bouillon cubes in water in a large pot.
3. Add cabbage and carrots and simmer for 20-30 minutes until tender.
4. Drain vegetables and reserve 1/2 cup cooking liquid.
5. Transfer vegetables to a greased casserole dish.
6. Melt butter in a saucepan and whisk in flour.
7. Add reserved broth and milk and cook until thickened.
8. Stir in cheddar cheese until smooth.
9. Pour sauce over vegetables and mix gently.
10. Sprinkle paprika on top.
11. Bake for 20-30 minutes until bubbly and golden.
Notes
- Use sharp cheddar for stronger flavor.
- Substitute vegetable bouillon for a vegetarian version.
- Store leftovers in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
