Creamy Marry Me Lentils (Dal Makhani) made with whole black lentils, kidney beans, butter, cream and authentic Indian spices. A rich North Indian comfort food recipe perfect for dinner.


Ingredients

  • 1 cup whole black urad dal
  • 1/4 cup kidney beans
  • 4 cups water
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 tbsp butter or ghee
  • 1 onion finely chopped
  • 2 tomatoes pureed
  • 2 tsp ginger garlic paste
  • 2 green chilies
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric
  • 1 tsp red chili powder
  • 1 1/2 tsp coriander powder
  • 1/2 tsp garam masala
  • 1/2 cup fresh cream
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • Fresh coriander

Instructions

1. Soak lentils and kidney beans overnight.

2. Cook until very soft.

3. Prepare onion tomato masala.

4. Add spices and cook until fragrant.

5. Mix cooked lentils into masala.

6. Mash slightly for creaminess.

7. Simmer for 35 minutes.

8. Add butter cream and garam masala.

9. Garnish with coriander and serve hot.

  • Slow simmering creates the best texture.
  • Tastes even better the next day.
